Yu-Ming Tu is a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Drs. Manish Kumar and Benny D. Freeman in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Yu-Ming received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering at the National Cheng Kung University and M.S in the area of lipid bilayers and protein dynamics in Chemical Engineering at the National Taiwan University, both in Taiwan. His research focuses on biomimetic membranes with the self-assembly of membrane proteins within a block copolymer matrix for various applications (aqueous separations, desalination, vapor transport, and battery separators). Yu-Ming is also involved in projects on characterizing and building membranes around artificial water and ion channels, and droplet interfacial bilayer tissues using 3D bioprinting. His research is recognized with the 2021 NAMS Student Fellowship Award, 2021 AIChE Separations Division Graduate Student Research Award in the Membrane Area, and Finalist in 2021 AIChE Excellence in Graduate Student Research (Area 08A).
