In this installment of the Meet the RAPID® Interns spotlight series, we are highlighting two interns from the Fall 2024 program. Scroll down to learn more about Alyssa Mize and Anna Labbe.

Alyssa Mize

Alyssa Miza is a senior at West Virginia University, working on a research project, "Microstructural Analysis of Metal-Embedded CMS Membranes for Sustainable Ammonia Production." Her research focuses on  the synthesis of metal-embedded CMS membranes for sustainable ammonia production, with the goal of proposing an alternative pathway to the Haber-Bosch process. Specifically, Alyssa performed pressure-decay sorption experiments to evaluate sorption data for N2, H2, and NH3 in order to determine the microstructure of both metal-free and metal-embedded CMS membranes and analyze their production performance.

What are your career aspirations?

My career aspirations are to start as a process engineer in manufacturing and eventually pursue a PhD in polymer engineering with a focus on sustainability.

What are your thoughts on the RAPID Intern Program?

The RAPID Intern Program has provided me with a deeper understanding of the importance of process intensification in innovative chemical process design and advancing sustainability initiatives. This experience is especially meaningful to me as it bridges the gap between academia and industry, and has helped me adopt a more creative and innovative approach to evaluating process design.

Anna Labbe

Anna Labbe is currently in her 4th year out of 5 at the University of Akron and is currently doing a co-op at Lubrizol working on "Process Intensification of Directly Alkylated PIBSA." At Lubrizol she is working with a team that is optimizing Directly Alkylated PIBSA and converting from a batch process to a continuous process while increasing the process efficiency.

What are your career aspirations?

I aspire to work for a company within the chemical industry that is on the cutting edge of their field.

What are your thoughts on the RAPID Intern Program?

I believe that the RAPID Intern Program has helped me develop both my technical and professional skills. The program was very helpful in improving and changing my perspective on process intensification for real world applications.

*The RAPID Intern Program is an exciting opportunity for students working with RAPID members. It is a virtual PI leadership program which overlays on the work students are already doing at RAPID member organizations and provides students with PI leadership training and professional development skill-building opportunities like networking, career discovery, and public speaking/presenting.
