Introduction to Drug Delivery Technology

Drugs can be administered by many routes, yet all emerging drug delivery technologies aim to improve drug efficacy, minimize side effects, and reduce the burden of care for patients and physicians.

This article explains the principles of drug delivery, describes several delivery approaches already commercially available or currently in development, and discusses some of the challenges and opportunities encountered during the translation of technology from academic research to commercial development.
