Nitrogen Recycling System Dries Fine Powders
This fluidized-bed drying system removes moisture with a chilled water coil and separates fine powders entrained in the inlet air stream from the process gas. An integral baghouse dust collector located directly above the fluidized bed collects and contains the dried particles. To eliminate the risk of explosion, nitrogen purge is added to the inlet air stream. The dryer recycles nitrogen, which limits the amount of fresh nitrogen needed for blanketing. The system complies with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 654 standard for the prevention of fire and dust explosions from the manufacturing, processing, and handling of combustible particulate solids. The fluidized-bed dryer is suitable for drying bentonite clay, pesticides and herbicides, powdered plastic resin, and other chemical, food, and pharmaceutical products that generate combustible particulates less than 200 μm in diameter.

Large-Scale Dust Collection Has a Small Footprint
The new Gold Series X-Flo (GSX) dust collector is suitable for industrial applications that produce or process fine, fibrous, and/or heavy dusts and fumes. It has a modular design that makes it easy to assemble. Each module handles airflows up to 6,000 ft3/min and contains four Gold Cone X-Flo filter cartridges. These filter cartridges have more pleated media and surface area than similar filters, so they can move air and process dust on a larger scale without increasing the equipment’s overall footprint. The dust collector features a new inlet and baffle configuration that creates more uniform airflow, which extends the life of the filters. And, when the filters are pulse-cleaned, dust is channeled directly into the hopper instead of into adjacent filters. These dust collectors exceed the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandates for indoor air quality and meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and ATEX standards. They are available with several explosion-protection features, including explosion vents, isolation valves, and fire-retardant filter cartridges. The system is suitable for use in the pharmaceutical, food, and chemical processing industries.

Forward Osmosis Improves Concentrated Product Quality
Components of foods, beverages, and pharmaceuticals are often concentrated to heighten aromas or flavors or strengthen active ingredients, and to reduce the costs of shipment and storage. Heating or pressurization during the concentrating process may degrade the quality of many components. This forward-osmosis (FO) system is capable of concentrating delicate components that are sensitive to heat and high pressure. It has a concentration rate three times higher than that of reverse-osmosis membranes. The FO system comes in two sizes with a dehydration speed of either 200 g/hr or 15 kg/hr.
