May 5–8, 2025 ■ NRG Park ■ Houston, TX ■ 2025.otcnet.org
The 2025 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is the leading event for advancing scientific and technical knowledge in the offshore energy sector. The conference will take place May 5–8, 2025, at the NRG Park in Houston, TX.
This year’s technical program features a wide variety of groundbreaking technologies and cutting-edge strategies in offshore systems, from optimizing production in oil and gas processes to implementing digital twins. AIChE’s program subcommittee has contributed exciting content to this year’s event, sponsoring or co-sponsoring 23 sessions throughout the conference’s four-day program, in addition to co-organizing two sessions with partnered organizations. Discussion topics at these sessions will include innovative subsurface approaches for carbon capture and storage, a keynote session on low-carbon blue ammonia technology at a floating ammonia production, storage, and offloading (FAPSO) facility, and a discussion of innovative strategies and perspectives from industry leaders.
This year, AIChE’s Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS) was selected as an invited organization. CHS will be programming a featured panel, “Hydrogen in the Marine Environment: Applications and Safety.” CHS will also have its own booth (Booth #L144), where attendees can meet with members of the CHS team and discuss the necessary strategies and technologies for maintaining safety in hydrogen processes.
A new feature of the program, this year’s OTC will begin with an opening ceremony, at which attendees, speakers, and exhibitors can convene to recognize the work of OTC’s award winners and hear an opening plenary talk. The plenary will feature industry leaders discussing the major themes explored throughout the conference, like evolving energy needs, the current policy landscape, and the industry’s social impact.
AIChE’s sponsored sessions begin Monday with “Driving Efficiency and Innovation in Offshore Production Through Electrification,” which will discuss the exciting opportunities that increasing electrification has afforded offshore processes, like the optimization of downhole infrastructure and the introduction of dedicated subsea interfaces. Monday will also feature an AIChE-sponsored discussion on the role of geothermal energy, with a keynote speech given by Kamel Ben Naceur, a member of the National Petroleum Council (NPC).
The second day features six AIChE-sponsored and co-sponsored sessions focusing on strategies for enhancing offshore production, improving sustainability, and decreasing carbon intensity. In the panel discussion “Subsea Tiebacks: Increase Production, Lower Costs and Carbon,” industry experts from Petrobras, Shell, and other leading offshore technology companies will discuss the economic and production benefits of using subsea tiebacks and the role they play in reducing emissions.
Wednesday’s AIChE-sponsored keynote session, “Carbon Capture and Storage: Pioneering the Future of Lower-Carbon Energy,” will focus on the intersecting technical, regulatory, and societal challenges facing carbon capture and storage technologies. The talk will be given by the Chevron Corporation’s Vice President of Subsurface Function, Jitendra Kikani.
The conference will conclude with a full day of programming featuring various AIChE-sponsored sessions focusing on the critical role new technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) are playing in offshore process development and operation. The session, “Technology and Innovation: Revolutionizing Offshore Operations and Safety,” will highlight the techniques engineers are employing to enhance field safety, productivity, and operational efficiency.
In addition to these engaging discussions from AIChE’s program subcommittee, the 2025 OTC will feature technical sessions sponsored by all 13 of OTC’s sponsoring organizations and societies, as well as poster sessions and networking events.
