AIChE’s 35 Under 35: Meet the Award Winners

The winners of AIChE’s 35 Under 35 Award have been announced and you are invited to meet them at the upcoming AIChE Annual Meeting! The AIChE 35 Under 35 Award celebrates an impressive group of 35 chemical engineering professionals under the age of 35 who have made significant contributions to their field and to the AIChE community. These young individuals will pave the way for future generations, serving as role models and innovators. The recipients of the 2023 round of awards were selected for their achievements and contributions in one of seven different categories:

  • bioengineering (6 winners)
  • chemicals and materials (9 winners)
  • education and outreach (2 winners)
  • energy and environment (6 winners)
  • innovation and entrepreneurship (3 winners)
  • leadership (7 winners)
  • safety (2 winners)

All awardees have significantly contributed to AIChE, with some having served as committee members or chairs for various conferences. Others have contributed by holding positions within different AIChE divisions and forums. From graduate students, researchers, entrepreneurs, professors, and industry professionals, these individuals are career-driven, but also lead interesting lives outside of work, pursuing various hobbies and activities in their personal lives. Among this year’s winners are avid entertainment and movie enthusiasts, as well as yoga practitioners, hikers, and a variety of athletes.

The winners who work in academic research are innovating and making technical advances that will impact a variety of industries. For example, one recipient investigates wearable and ingestible medical devices, while another’s research focuses on catalysis to solve chemical engineering challenges to sustainably meet growing energy and product demands, with an emphasis on zeolites and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Another award winner, who is currently a postdoctoral research fellow, is investigating how bacteriophages interact with bacteria in complex 3D spaces. All of the winners are goal-oriented and are constantly looking for ways to enhance the field.

The winners will be formally recognized and celebrated during an awards reception at the 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL (Nov. 5–10, 2023). In addition, each awardee will receive a cash prize of $500, have their profiles highlighted throughout AIChE and the chemical engineering community, and receive complimentary AIChE membership for 2024.

Meet this year’s winners and learn more about them in the October 2023 issue of CEP.
