All who wish to be part of the chemical engineering community should have equal opportunity to pursue and achieve success. Yet groups that have faced discrimination continue to face challenges when entering into or participating in engineering professions.
That’s why we’ve created the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Certificate Program for students, staff and faculty—to raise awareness of why EDI matters, how it impacts STEM and engineering, and how to create a safe and welcoming scientific environment.
The first in the series of three online courses, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Part 1: Why It Matters in STEM and Engineering provides a basic overview of why inclusion in engineering matters and the role of unconscious bias in academia.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Part 2: How Does It Impact STEM and Engineering is an intermediate-level course that assesses the profession's current state, examines key concepts in unconscious bias, and offers techniques for reducing the prevalence and effect of bias in engineering.
Those who attend Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Part 3: Anti-racism and intersectionality explores the terms anti-racist, non-racist, and intersectionality as they relate to and their importance in academic and workplace contexts in STEM and engineering.
