This course has replaced ELA 909, Basics of Laboratory Safety.
Laboratory safety is important for undergraduate students working in unit operations or other laboratories, and faculty, graduate students, and industrial practitioners working in research laboratories. This module presents an introduction to laboratory safety and provides the content necessary to identify laboratory hazards, including chemical, equipment, and procedural hazards. The student will learn about the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), including hazard classes and labeling; the toxic, flammable, and reactive hazards of chemicals; equipment hazards, including electrical, compressed gases, and other hazards; and an introduction to industrial hygiene and personal protective equipment.
