Process Safety Boot Camp (CH900)

This highly interactive, fast-paced course is taught by two process safety experts, each with 25+ years’ experience.  Lecture, videos, case studies, discussion, and breakout sessions are featured. An incident (or example) is included with most elements to emphasize the importance of that element and the potential consequences of lacking or inadequate definition or implementation. For selected elements,  exercises, or discussion follows for participants to analyze the concepts presented and participate in group discussions to facilitate information sharing, understanding, and application of the materials.

Chemical Engineering for Non-Chemical Engineers (CH710)

In today’s workplace, non-chemical engineers are increasingly expected to work with chemical engineers on projects, scale-ups and process evaluations. But to do so, you need a solid understanding of basic concepts of chemical engineering analysis, design and calculations. Join chemical engineering experts in this four-day virtual training overview of the fundamentals of chemical engineering that you need to understand, communicate and work with chemical engineers.

Flow of Solids in Bins, Hoppers, Chutes and Feeders (CH032)

In this course, you’ll review the fundamentals of bulk material flow and examine common flow problems, types of flow patterns in equipment and how flow properties of bulk solids are measured. You’ll consider feeder design, learn proven troubleshooting techniques and gain insight into flow problems that occur when handling fine powders. The instructor also covers common mechanisms of segregation and solutions to these costly problems and gives practical advice for using flow aid devices.

Spreadsheet Problem-Solving for Chemical Engineers (CH764)

This four-session course provides a comprehensive, hands-on experience in solving numerical problems often encountered by chemical engineers using Microsoft Excel. Scenarios include material and energy balances, fluid flow, heat transfer, separations, chemical reactions, and process flowsheets. Methods included are equation-solving, data analysis, optimization, and process economics. Typical chemical engineering examples are used throughout.

HAZOP Studies and Other PHA Techniques for Process Safety and Risk Management (CH157)

In five days, you’ll get up-to-date on your obligations under the OSHA PSM Rule and EPA RMP regulations. You’ll learn how to determine the adequacy of your safeguards and report findings and recommendations. You’ll examine various hazard evaluation methods, including the HAZOP Study, and how to select the method appropriate for your facility. The course concludes with a look at hazard evaluation of procedure-based operations and PLC-controlled processes, conducting the final meeting and quality check, and reporting techniques.

Advanced Concepts for Process Hazard Analysis (CH754)

In four days, you’ll work with a team to learn and practice the PHA techniques successfully being applied in the process safety industry today. Using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet provided during the course, you’ll document and analyze HAZOP Studies. You’ll then modify your spreadsheet to include findings and recommendations as pseudo safeguards. You’ll also examine the concept of importance measures applied to PHAs and how to use a PHA to identify safety instrumented systems (SIS) and safety integrity levels (SIL). You’ll conclude the course by reporting your HAZOP Study results in a team presentation before other course participants.
