As part of the release of their penultimate album In Rainbows, the Radiohead held a contest for people to remix the single "Nude." James Houston took a bunch of old hardware and created a bit of magic with it in a remix where technology and art come together. From James:
"Nude" is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that's played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It's pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set. Based on the lyric (and alternate title) "Big Ideas: Don't Get Any," I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they're trying their best to do something that they're not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there. It doesn't sound great, as it's not supposed to.
The video is interesting to watch even if you aren't familiar with Radiohead's music. And if you are, you'll probably agree that it wouldn't be beyond the band to try using this very hardware to do the same thing. TIP: the fun really starts at about 1:10 in the video at right.
You can compare James's version to the orginal, performed live on Jonathan Ross:
