The Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS), a dynamic AIChE technical community committed to advancing hydrogen as a next-generation fuel, is thrilled to announce the launch of the Robert Zalosh Hydrogen Safety Excellence Awards. These awards are set to shine a spotlight on exceptional contributions to safety practices within the hydrogen industry.
Named in honor of Robert Zalosh (1944–2023), an esteemed AIChE Fellow and Professor Emeritus at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, these awards celebrate his enduring impact on hydrogen and fuel cell safety. Zalosh's legacy includes serving as an incident investigator for the U.S. Chemical Safety Board and a member of the Hydrogen Safety Panel, aiding both the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Hydrogen Safety. Within AIChE’s Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), he played a pivotal role in the annual Loss Prevention Symposium and was the principal author of the seminal CCPS book “Guidelines for Safe Handling of Powders and Bulk Solids.”
The Robert Zalosh Hydrogen Safety Excellence Awards will honor outstanding achievements in three categories:
- Individual: Recognizing individuals who have significantly advanced hydrogen safety throughout their careers.
- Project: Celebrating teams that have implemented impactful safety initiatives.
- Organization: Highlighting institutions, companies, government bodies, or other organizations committed to hydrogen safety.
Nominations for these inaugural awards are open until October 31, 2024. The first awards will be presented at a CHS or AIChE event in 2025.
If you know an individual, project team, or organization that deserves recognition for their dedication to hydrogen safety, we encourage you to submit a nomination.
