18th GCPS Welcome Plenary Keynote | AIChE

The 18th Global Congress on Process Safety (GCPS) welcome plenary keynote will be presented by Robert (Bob) Johnston, SVP, Global Operations at ExxonMobil Chemical Company.

Keynote Address “Are We Learning from the Past – How Do You Really Know?”

Keynote Abstract:

Our industry sees events every year that push us to rethink our approach to process safety. Following each rigorous investigation, we have shared findings and insights broadly, recognizing that collaboration is key to enhancing process safety.

But what is the difference between routinely sharing and truly learning – how do you really know you have a culture of actively learning? We must work collectively to remove the obstacles for learning and sharing – time, resources, humility, and willingness to seek external answers. This is a core commitment at ExxonMobil. Indeed, we all have the duty to protect against the incidents of tomorrow with the decisions and leadership we show today. Together, we can foster the culture of learning for long-term sustainable improvements, not only among our workforce and in the communities where we operate today, but also for future generations.

Note: This welcome plenary keynote is open to all registrants of the 2022 AIChE Spring Meeting and 18th GCPS.
