Process Intensification (PI) and Modular Chemical Process Intensification (MCPI) are relatively new concepts for many professionals in the process industries. This course, developed by the Texas A&M University in partnership with Chemstations through a RAPID Manufacturing Institute award, is designed for professional engineers and faculty interested in state-of-the-art process design, synthesis and integration methods, models and techniques for computer-aided process intensification (PI). Over the course of three days, you’ll:

  • Review challenges, approaches, tools and opportunities for computer-aided PI
  • Learn systematic approaches for design and simulation of representative intensified processes involving reaction, separation, reactive separation and hybrid systems
  • Discuss model-based identification, analysis and benchmarking of intensification opportunities and early stage conceptual PI and MCPI process designs
  • Review model-based process flexibility, safety and operability analysis of PI and MCPI systems, and model-based strategies towards quality, safety and performance control of PI and MCPI designs
  • Perform techno-economic, feasibility and sustainability analysis of PI and MCPI process units and systems

    After taking this course you will be able to:

    • Define and describe PI for improving conventional processes
    • Describe and summarize challenges related to PI 
    • Identify plausible PI designs and the necessary tools
    • Compare and contrast conventional and intensified process systems by defining objectives and targets
    • Evaluate overall mass and energy targets of PI designs
    • Describe different examples of intensified processes and showcase applications of PI
    • Discuss modeling and simulation tools utilized for PI
    • Make informed PI decisions based on process flexibility, operability, safety and control
    • Analyze technoeconomic, operational and environmental performances of PI system designs
