While the climate for equity, diversity and inclusion has improved for students on some campuses and diversity in science has increased, low STEM retention rates and a lagging number of women and other minorities in leadership positions continue. Clearly, much more work needs to be done in creating a safe and welcoming scientific environment. Join this online course to gain the understanding, information and tools you need to address equity, diversity and inclusion in your role as a student, professional engineer or engineering administrator. This course is the third in a three-part series. You are encouraged to attend Parts I and II, but not required.
You’ll learn how to help students and staff in university-level STEM programs mitigate bias in academia and other life situations and develop a growth mindset for equity, diversity and inclusion. You’ll address problems such as racism and bias and consider the importance of intersectional thinking. In addition, you’ll explore the terms anti-racist, non-racist and intersectionality as they relate to academic and workplace contexts in STEM and engineering. By the end of the course, you’ll be prepared to achieve the levels of innovation, impact, vitality and modernization necessary to address the needs of a rapidly changing world.
Learning Outcomes:
Undergraduate and graduate STEM and engineering students; engineering professors and lab assistants; engineering deans/admin
