Chemical Reaction Engineering (CRE) is a subject that is readily adapted to solving problems through algorithms rather than memorization of the numerous equations for each reactor type. The algorithm for isothermal reactor design (Mole Balance, Rate Law, Stoichiometry, Combine and Evaluate) which is analogous to ordering from a 'Fixed Price' French menu, is presented along with the key equations for each of the components of the algorithm. The design of Batch Reactors, Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors, Plug Flow Reactors, Packed Bed Reactors, Semi-Batch Reactors and Membrane Reactors is discussed along with corresponding uses and simplifying assumptions.
