Recently, there are more projections for electric vehicles, wind and solar, a stronger grid, and the mandates at many levels of government to implement these resources. Unfortunately, some of the nasty technical details that result from such mandates and projections have been, shall we say, glossed over? A closer look shows that some materials (e.g., lithium, cobalt, copper, etc.) may well be either in short supply or controlled by countries that are either unstable (e.g., DR Congo) or not necessarily very friendly (e.g., China.). Dr. Alan will provide a broad-brush look at where the pinch points in materials are likely to be, and what can be done about them.
