Workers in the laboratory are often exposed to liquid chemicals and fire and explosive hazards that pose a risk of chemical or thermal burns. Although these risks cannot always be removed, they can often be managed. By conducting a hazard assessment, eliminating hazards where possible, instituting engineering and administrative controls, and ensuring the issuance and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), employers can help provide a safer work environment.
Because hazard removal and engineering and administrative controls are not always feasible, PPE should be a key component of an effective worker safety program. In a lab environment, garments that are chemical splash protective (CP), flame resistant (FR), or flame resistant and chemical splash protective (FRCP) provide a foundational defense. CP and FRCP lab coats designed for these lab hazards, when consistently and properly worn, can help ensure worker safety.
Due to the increase in awareness of the number of accidents and injuries related to fire and clothing ignition, the use of FR lab coats in research and commercial labs has become an increasingly important component to lab safety. In this webinar, we’ll take you through the basics of the chemical protection market, discuss common laboratory hazards and highlight the difference between FR and non-FR lab coats.
