An online atmospheric radiation model is introduced and used to explain the technical details of the mechanism for global warming. Fundamental principles of the global energy balance, radiant energy transfer, and the atmosphere are applied. The MODTRAN Infrared Light in the Atmosphere (MILIA) model is used to demonstrate reduced energy escape to space by greenhouse gases, the power of methane as a greenhouse gas, and the role of water vapor.
