Modern life depends upon the availability of plentiful energy at reasonable cost. Life styles, industries, agriculture, health care all assume availability of energy on demand. Is this situation sustainable? These days we see daily headlines, news articles, and commentaries about energy issues. What are the facts behind the headlines? What are the parameters that are driving the current situation and will determine the future state? Is there truly a problem, and if so, is it a short term problem or is there a fundamental paradigm shift?
We will try to get a grasp on these questions and seek a perspective on the energy challenge facing the world. Considering the macroeconomics of demand and supply, we’ll examine data and trends. From bounding calculations, we’ll try to discern what is likely or not likely to develop in the coming years. We seek perspective about conditions that are likely to impact our lives, our industries, our society, and our environment.
