Most engineers in the chemical process industry talk about Management of Change (MOC) with authority, but you rarely hear them mention PSSR or Pre-Start Up Safety Review in the same breadth.  It seems that all of the elements of PSM are important for discussion but one…PSSR; but why?  PSSR was, and is, as important as any of the elements of PSM/RMP/BSSE for two reasons. First, PSSR is a redundant check that a change has been reviewed, analyzed, approved and accomplished in a quality manner.  In a “quality manner” means the change has been accomplished, usually by maintenance staff, in a manner acceptable by operations.  The change must be completely done and well done.  Secondly, a PSSR is intended to be a check that all process safety information has been updated and all the training has been accomplished concerning the change.

This live presentation explores the role and importance of PSSR, the many challenges industries face when performing PSSR and various mitigation paths.

You Will Learn:

  • PSM standards and requirements for PSSR
    • What drives the need for PSSR?
    • Why is PSSR important?
  • The importance of PSSR in a variety of areas
    • When should I perform a PSSR?
    • Who should perform a PSSR?
    • Where does PSSR fit in the process?
  • PSSR is not just compliance
    • Why do we limit PSSR to Safety?
    • What are ways PSSR can be used to improve the organization?
    • Benefits of PSSR doesn’t have to be limited
  • PSSR Success and Failure
