This presentation provides an overview of benefits achieved by teaching dynamics and control during the junior year, enabling better integration of basic dynamic modeling, simulation and control concepts throughout the chemical engineering curriculum. Process dynamics and control courses are often taught during the senior year, with the disadvantage that most other chemical engineering courses focus on steady state analysis.
Dr. Bequette discusses how MATLAB is introduced and used in the control course, including the use of motivating simulation-based modules that can also be used in other courses. Examples from chemical reactor design are used to illustrate the benefits of integrating dynamics and control concepts into the reactor design course.
