The TurboPy Approach to Learning Python presented by Paul Adamson

According to the TIOBE (https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index) and PYPL (https://pypl.github.io/PYPL.html) indices, Python is the top computer programming language in the world. This popularity is primarily driven by its easy-to-learn syntax and versatility. In this talk, we will quickly review the basics of Python, including how to quickly become productive with the language. We will also learn about the Naval Research Laboratory’s TurboPy Coding Boot Camp (https://www.nrl.navy.mil/STEM/TurboPy), its approach to training newcomers to Python software development, and ways you or your team can leverage the curriculum (for free or minimal cost). We will end with a demonstration of popular Python data science and scientific computing packages.

Dr. Paul Adamson is a Senior Research Physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory. Dr. Adamson’s primary role is Principal Investigator for a portfolio of research developing and improving pulsed power-driven sources of intense, short pulses of radiation. The resulting simulation capabilities are then used by a variety of customers to determine component and material response in those environments.
