Mr. Colin D Armstrong, Senior Engineer, AcuTech, specializes in Process Safety Management and quantitative and qualitative risk assessment of hazardous material operations; he was formerly an Advanced Process Engineer with ExxonMobil Research and Engineering. In the area of Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Mr. Armstrong is highly-skilled in the areas of hazard identification, consequence modeling, frequency analysis, risk presentation, and analysis of risk results. He has completed QRA and consequence analysis projects across the globe, including the analysis of oil and gas terminals, refineries, specialty chemical plants, and fuel transportation and handling operations.

As an instructor, he has taught QRA training courses to clients in industry, and to engineering students at the University Of Maryland. Mr. Armstrong was the lead author of “A Risk Analysis/Hazard Assessment of High Ethanol Content Fuels at Service Stations” for the Coordinating Research Council and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Mr. Armstrong is an advanced user of Phast and Safeti for completing consequence analyses, facility siting, and QRAs.

He is well-versed in the TNO Guidelines for Quantitative Risk Assessment (TNO Purple Book); API RP-752, API RP-753; API RP-756; and the Center for Chemical Process Safety’s “Guidelines for Chemical Process Quantitative Risk Assessment”. Mr. Armstrong has facilitated Process Hazard Analyses for clients in the petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, agriculture, food production, and alternative energy sectors. He is an effective team leader with a proven track record of successful hazard analysis projects, including the use of HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID, FMEA, What-If, Quantitative Fault Tree Analysis, and Checklist methodologies.
