Since retiring from the American Chemical Society in July 2021, Ruskin has been serving as a Senior Advisor at HillStaffer, a leading government and public affairs consulting firm. Through HillStaffer, he is serving as the Government Affairs Principal for the Materials Research Society. Prior to his retirement from ACS, Ruskin was Vice President, External Affairs and Communications, leading the Society’s communications, government affairs and international outreach activities.
He joined ACS in May 2005 where he first led the Office of Legislative and Government Affairs (OLGA), and then the Office of Public Affairs (OPA) which merged OLGA and the ACS Office of Communications. In late 2016, International Activities was added to OPA and renamed External Affairs & Communications. In 2019 Ruskin was promoted to Vice President, External Affairs and Communications.
Prior to joining ACS, Ruskin worked in the chemical industry for nearly 20 years, with Ciba-Geigy, Ciba Specialty Chemicals and Solutia. He has over 35 years of management experience and his areas of expertise cover government affairs, public relations, corporate communications, media relations, litigation/crisis communications and environmental affairs.
