RAPID's Understanding PIDs and Other Facility Diagrams and Drawing

This online course introduces new petrochemical employees to the wide array of drawings used throughout industry.  Many new employees starting their careers as process technicians have never had to use and understand complex, detailed drawings.  The courses introduce both new employees just starting their careers, and job seekers looking to begin a career in the chemical process industries to the wide variety of drawings they will be exposed to throughout their careers. The course is divided into several modules such as photographs, block flow diagrams,  control room graphics, process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), Isometric drawings, location and plot plans, elevation drawings, electrical one -line drawings, and management of change for drawings. Upon completion of the course, learners will better understand the different types of drawings they use frequently throughout their career.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand that keeping current, accurate and up-to-date drawings is a safety issue
  • Describe the purpose of commonly used industrial drawings
  • Comprehend the situations appropriate for each type of drawing
  • Recognize the symbols and information of a Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
