Synergy, which is derived from the Greek word “synergia” (συνεργία) meaning "working together," is defined as the creation of a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The power of combining forces to create large-scale transformations or outcomes is especially relevant in the field of process intensification (PI).
Process Intensification in the functional domain tries to achieve this level of synergy by combining one or more functions (such as heat transfer and mixing) in a single device or process step. Such a combination results primarily in the enhancement of process efficiency (e.g. separation efficiency). It should be noted that there are numerous examples of combined functions in which the “real” synergy (a whole greater than the simple sum of its parts) cannot be proven, yet in which significant process intensification results (in terms of efficiency) can clearly be seen.
In this 60-minute webinar, you’ll review achievable synergies in the following types of combined operations and functions:
Join us for the 6th webinar in RAPID’s 10-part series which explores the dynamic elements of “synergy.” This webinar will be presented by Andrzej Stankiewicz, a leading expert in PI.
This webinar is part of a 10-part webinar series sponsored by the RAPID Manufacturing Institute. Webinars are free to RAPID Members. Click here for more information about the PI Webinar Series and to register for additional webinars in this series.
