In this 60-minute webinar, you'll explore process intensification in the temporal domain. Here, the underlying manipulative parameter for process intensification is time.
In this domain, two approaches can be distinguished. The first approach concerns introduction of purposeful dynamic (usually periodic or cyclic) operation of process units. Oscillatory flow reactors, reverse flow reactors, periodic operation of trickle bed reactors, cyclic distillation, pulse combustion, pressure swing adsorption, desorptive cooling, variable volume operation of stirred tank reactors are some prominent examples in this category.
The second approach is based on the combined application of novel reactor designs and operating windows and aims at manipulation (usually extreme shortening) of targeted reaction or transport events within a reactive process in order to control the product distribution as the main goal. This approach can be seen for instance in the transformation of gaseous and solid (oxygenated) hydrocarbon fuels to higher value products.
