Profile: Cultivating Teamwork as an Engineer and Volunteer

As a biochemical engineer with over two decades of experience, an AIChE board member, and a Coast-Guard-licensed tall-ship captain, Gregory Frank has a deep appreciation of teamwork and the importance of being open to the perspectives and insights of others. “It’s great to work with people coming from different professional backgrounds,” he says. “There’s always more to learn, and unexpected ways a convergence of disciplines can lead to new opportunities.”

Greg is currently a principal engineer at Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, CA. He grew up on the east coast and chose to pursue chemical engineering as an undergraduate on the advice of one of his professors. He graduated with a BE from Stevens Institute of Technology, and went on to receive an MS in chemical engineering and pharmacokinetics from the Univ. of Delaware and a PhD in biochemical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, all in succession.

Greg started his career in R&D at Merck in Rahway, NJ. In 1990, he relocated to Boulder to join Roche Colorado, where he spent four years. From there, he spent nine years with Promega, developing pharmaceutical intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
