Smartphone App Speeds Emergency Communications

images

The Emergency Alert app allows employees in crisis situations to simply press a button to send — with high priority — both their location and an audio recording to a designated emergency channel. This immediately distributes the nature and details of the emergency to all relevant parties so they can respond accordingly. The app helps keep employees safe, informed, and connected, and is useful for lone workers, remote workers, and/or field workers. Through mass communication and geolocation sharing, employees can quickly respond to and resolve crises and emergencies. Once the initiator of the emergency is no longer in distress, they can dismiss the emergency alert. Everything that occurs on the app during an emergency is recorded, providing a valuable record of the event. This emergency communication tool works in critical conditions, such as when the power lines fail and only low-bandwidth (2G) data networks or WiFi are available. The app is available on Android, iOS, and Windows platforms.

Glove Box Controls Relative Humidity and Oxygen Levels

The Nitrogenema enclosures are capable of nearly eliminating moisture or oxygen within the glove box through the flow of inert gas. The enclosures have a depth of 28 in., come in widths of 3 ft, 4 ft, or 5 ft, and are available with two exhaust options. Operator and process safety are enhanced by a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration unit, a one-way check valve, and the ability to connect to a facility’s exhaust system. Each glove box is designed with 10-in. oval glove ports, which minimize technician arm, wrist, and shoulder fatigue while maintaining a controlled environment. Each enclosure includes the FS1501 metering system, which has a screen that displays relative humidity, oxygen levels, and temperature. The metering system is designed to conserve nitrogen; the nitrogen-saving automatic shutoff activates when the relative humidity or oxygen level setpoint is reached. Using the metering system, users can adjust the flowrate of nitrogen for either high-flow purge or low-flow purge. The enclosure has audio and visual alarms that activate when the oxygen or humidity level goes above the setpoint.
