AIChE® Celebrates Organizations and Leaders for Engineering the Extraordinary
The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) celebrated the contributions of the companies Chevron and Ecolab, and the good works of chemical engineers and their employers, at the 2022 AIChE Gala held on December 1st in New York City.
At a time when the world faces so many challenges, we need a fully engaged and dedicated future workforce. We hope that our gala will inspire you to consider what “doing a world of good” means to you—in your professional capacities, and in your personal endeavors. — Dr. Christine Grant, President, AIChE
Chevron was recognized for its commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce and for developing clean energy solutions, and Ecolab, for advancing food safety, maintaining clean and safe environments, and optimizing sustainable water and energy use. Mike Wirth, Chevron’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, and Christophe Beck, Ecolab’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, accepted the awards on behalf of their companies.
Paula T. Hammond, Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a member of the MIT’s Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, was honored with the Doing a World of Good Medal for her research in nanomaterials and her leadership in creating a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive engineering talent pool.
Hammond noted, “One of my greatest joys has been the ability to mentor scientists and engineers early in their careers—including those who work in my lab. It is my hope to be able to reach and have an impact on the many promising future engineers who may not always be encouraged or exposed to the wonders of science and technology.”
Inspiring the next generation was a central theme of the night, brought to life by the presence of students from the Future of STEM Scholarship Initiative (FOSSI), Brooklyn Tech, and CUNY.
The evening raised more than $500,000 to underwrite K-12 programs designed to inspire imaginations and attract and retain students from underrepresented groups for the STEM professions, in order to foster a more equitable and inclusive workforce.
Join Chevron, Ecolab, and Paula Hammond with a gift to the AIChE Foundation that accelerates the extraordinary imaginations of the next generation’s STEM innovators.
