Presenting Two Projects Approved for AIChE Foundation Funding: LGBTQ+ & Allies Programming and LatinX in Chemical Engineering
The AIChE Foundation remains dedicated to funding pioneering initiatives that achieve the transformative priorities of the Doing a World of Good campaign. The Foundation’s Grants Committee, co-chaired by AIChE Board of Trustees Zenaida Otero Gephardt and Gayle Gibson, approved LGBTQ+ & Allies Programming and Networking Events and LatinX in Chemical Engineering for renewed funding. This support will sustain these critical programs and continue the Foundation’s work in advancing the chemical engineering profession.
The contributions from the AIChE Foundation boosted the growth of the LatinXinChE community last year. We are incredibly grateful for the support this year, allowing us to expand the networking events and provide students with awards to present their work at multiple virtual and in-person events. — Gabriel J. Rodriguez Rivera, LatinX Voices in Chemical Engineering Project Lead
LGBTQ+ & Allies Programming and Networking Events
The LGBTQ+ & Allies Initiative Committee will continue to hold its longstanding networking events at the 2024 Annual Meeting, broadening engagement and elevating their voice within the chemical engineering community.
"We appreciate the AIChE Foundation for fostering the professional development and networking of AIChE members that want to learn more ways to create an inclusive chemical engineering profession. In many locations these days, LGBTQ+ chemical engineering students and early career professionals can feel isolated and unsupported; it is energizing to help them find their professional home in AIChE," stated the LGBTQ+ & Allies Initiative Steering Committee.
LatinX Voices in Chemical Engineering
Following its debut in 2023, LatinXinChE will host virtual and in-person events during the 2024 AIChE Spring and Fall Annual Meetings to further the professional development and community of Latin American ChEs.
"The contributions from the AIChE Foundation boosted the growth of the LatinXinChE community last year. We are incredibly grateful for the support this year, allowing us to expand the networking events and provide students with awards to present their work at multiple virtual and in-person events," said Gabriel J. Rodriguez Rivera, LatinX Voices in Chemical Engineering Project Lead.
The next funding cycle opens on March 1, 2024, with a deadline of May 1, 2024. We encourage our Operating Council members to submit their proposals here once the cycle opens. If you have any questions regarding the grant administration process, please contact Lucille Song at lucis@aiche.org.
With the generosity of our Doing a World of Good donors, whose contributions strategically support programs like the above, the AIChE Foundation continues to excel as a leader and investor in the charge towards increasing excellence in chemical engineering.
