Women in Chemical Engineering (WIC) Honors Three Mentorship Awardees
More than 100 female chemical engineers attended the annual WIC Breakfast at the 2023 AIChE Annual Meeting, ready to learn which of their peers were selected as the 2023 WIC Mentorship Excellence Awardees and to listen to Erin Kane, President and Chief Executive Officer, AdvanSix and a 2023 AIChE Annual Gala Honoree.
Joining them was long-time philanthropist Scott Love, who, along with his wife, Karen, is an ally and advocate for underrepresented chemical engineers.
We are delighted to play a small role in inspiring and empowering the Women in Chemical Engineering Community (WIC), thereby enhancing their ability to be leaders of our industry. — Scott & Karen Love
The Loves’ multi-year gift to WIC increased the number of WIC Mentorship Awards from one to three categories. In both 2022 and 2023, recipients were selected representing industry and national labs, academia, and graduate or postdocs recognizing individuals providing outstanding support and mentorship to the next generation. The 2023 recipients are: Christina Chan, Anush Chiappino-Pepe, and Louisa Nara.
Receiving an honorarium and assistance provides these awardees the opportunity to attend AIChE’s flagship conference, connecting them to peers and new opportunities. Additionally, recipients gain a safe and welcoming space to meet other women within the chemical engineering and related fields, enhancing their professional and personal growth.
This activity is just one of many where AIChE continues its work to ensure that equitable treatment, representation, and employment of all women in chemical engineering continue. We are grateful to Scott and Karen Love for their ongoing philanthropic commitment to amplifying voices of traditionally underrepresented groups in the profession.
Congratulations to all WIC Mentorship Excellence awardees. We look forward to recognizing a new group in 2024.
