Celebrating a Legacy of Inspirational Leadership – Peers Collaborate to Advance Endowment
Dr. John C. Chen was recognized throughout his career for his steadfast commitment to the next generation of chemical engineers in both industry and academia.
Deeply saddened by his early passing, his wife, Kathy Chen, along with his peers, students and friends, established the John C. Chen Endowment for Young Professional Leadership. Since its launch, six young professionals have been selected as recipients. These include Julianne Holloway (2020), Shelby Mills (2020), Amir Sheikhi (2020), Julia Lin (2019), Donna Bryant (2018) and Colin Young (2018).
Kathy noted that she is “so pleased that they are remaining active and engaged members of AIChE, as was John, and that they will each embrace every opportunity to learn, grow and give back to AIChE.”
Truer words could not be spoken as both Donna and Julianne are now sharing their time and talent as members of the AIChE Board of Directors. We look forward to each recipient achieving his or her professional and personal goals.
The endowment has officially achieved its initial fundraising target through the generosity, in large part, of his children, Lisa and Peter, and John’s colleagues, Tony Bi and Liang-Shih (LS) Fan, in concert with the organizing committee of the 13th International Fluidization Technology Conference, who elected to donate the proceeds of the conference in support of the Endowment.
We look forward to celebrating John’s legacy and passion for leadership at an upcoming virtual coffee chat. To learn more about making a gift to the John C. Chen Endowment or to receive an invite, please contact Natalie Krauser, at natak@aiche.org.
