Congratulations to the Inaugural John C. Chen Endowment Recipients
Jennifer Sinclair Curtis, Dean of Engineering at the University of California, Davis had the opportunity during the 2018 AIChE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh to speak with Donna Bryant and Colin Young, the two inaugural scholarship recipients of the John C. Chen Endowment for Young Professional Leadership.
Jennifer serves on the steering committee for this newly endowed award established by the late John C. Chen’s family, friends and colleagues. As a collective they raised funds in honor of John’s career as an educator and his longtime professional service to AIChE. The endowment will provide scholarship funds to support, in perpetuity, the leadership development training of two selected young professional members of AIChE annually.
Donna Bryant is a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Virginia and is now the Environmental Operations Unit Superintendent at Syngenta in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She also is Chair of the Baton Rouge AIChE Local Section, Programming Chair for the Management Division, and Vice Chair of the Young Professional Committee.
Colin Young recently received his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Utah. He is the chair of AIChE’s Young Professionals Committee and has played an active role in STEM outreach. Currently, Colin is a research scientist at Utah’s Huntsman Cancer Institute, where he studies genes associated with increased breast cancer risk.
