Helping Ensure the Future of Chemical Engineering
Why is planning for the future so important? It allows you to direct your legacy, ensuring both financial security for your family and future support for your preferred nonprofit, AIChE.
Each week, AIChE Foundation is making an impact throughout our profession by continuing to do a world of good. This week is special because it’s National Estate Planning Awareness Week, making it 'the perfect time of year to create your plan that supports yourself, your loved ones and AIChE.' — Pete Lodal, AIChE Legacy Society Member and Treasurer, AIChE Board of Directors
No matter where you are on your life’s path, the week of October 17th is special. This is the best time of year to create your estate plan because it’s National Estate Planning Awareness Week (NEPAW). Below are six steps that will help you prepare for the future and leave a legacy of inspiration.
- Create a will to protect your assets, on your own terms
- Make a guardianship plan for your minor children or pets to ensure they’re always cared for
- Protect your finances through a Financial Power of Attorney
- Designate beneficiaries for non-probate assets like a 401(k), life insurance policy, or IRA
- Create your legacy plan to help sustain extraordinary impact for the profession of today and tomorrow
- Join our Legacy Society with a gift in your estate plan. The National Association of Estate Planners & Councils explains that an up-to-date plan can protect your assets and help ensure they are transferred according to your wishes. A comprehensive estate plan includes a will, charitable bequests, beneficiary designations, and more.
